These are not predictions. They are situated acts of imagination: notes sent from one living person, in one uncertain moment, toward futures that may never arrive in the form described here.

They are written to be carried, contradicted, implemented, abandoned, or found again long after their author is gone.

# Field Note 01  
## An Operating System for Shared Reality

An operating system sits between a person and a machine. It translates gesture into operation. It hides almost impossible complexity behind a surface that can be touched, spoken to, and understood. Beneath the icons are switches, logic gates, memory addresses, permissions, and processes competing for time. The interface does not remove the machinery. It gives the human a way to enter into relation with it.

What would an operating system for shared reality do?

Not a system that declares one worldview correct. Not a machine for manufacturing consensus. Shared reality has never meant that everyone sees the same thing. It means that our differences remain connected to common objects, common times, and common worlds.

Cyberdelic OS would sit between the private universe of a person and the continuously negotiated world we inhabit together. Its first unit would not be the account, the post, or the follower. It would be the **aperture**: the irreducible position from which one life encounters existence. Each aperture carries a history, a body, a vocabulary, a set of wounds, a way of noticing, and a field of things it has not yet learned to see.

The system would begin with intention:

*What are you trying to understand, cultivate, feel, or become capable of seeing?*

From that intention it might compose a finite constellation: a few works, ideas, voices, memories, and counterpositions. Then it would end. Ending would not be a failure of supply. It would be an act of respect.

Across many apertures there would be a shared sky. The same object might appear differently in different lives. One person finds in it evidence; another finds testimony; another finds beauty; another finds danger. The distance between these placements is not noise to eliminate. It is parallax. It is how depth becomes visible.

The kernel of this operating system would be ethical before it was technical. It would distinguish observation from interpretation, testimony from forecast, art from argument. It would make provenance legible. It would protect the right to dissent, but also ask us to represent what we oppose accurately. It would preserve the possibility that some things should remain ambiguous, private, sacred, or unmeasured.

Its scheduler would allocate attention, but not according to outrage or addiction. Its gravity would pull toward depth, resonance, surprise, and clarification across difference. Its network layer would be correspondence. Its memory would not merely store what we encountered, but how we saw it, and how that seeing changed.

Cyberdelic OS would not tell us what reality is.

It would help us perceive the living relation between reality, interpretation, and one another.

# Field Note 02  
## Asynchronous Co-Presence

Some of my most meaningful collaborations do not happen in meetings.

My friend and collaborator Jason lives in Amsterdam. I live on Vancouver Island. Our days overlap imperfectly, and our creative rhythms are different. We leave one another voice notes. We send links, fragments, half-formed thoughts, images, passages, music, and glimpses of whatever we are making. One of us enters the thread as the other leaves it. Hours later, the response arrives.

Yet the exchange does not feel disembodied.

A voice note carries breath, cadence, hesitation, fatigue, weather, excitement, and the small acoustic evidence of the life surrounding it. A thought arrives not as polished text but as an event in a body. You hear someone discovering what they mean while they are saying it. Errors remain. Sentences change direction. The living mind leaves fingerprints.

Presence, then, may not require simultaneity.

There is another kind of presence made from continuity: the knowledge that a shared thread remains open, that something you leave will be received into another life, and that the other person can enter when their attention is genuinely available. This is not delayed conversation. It is **asynchronous co-presence**.

Most contemporary software treats delay as a defect. It wants immediacy, notifications, rapid replies, visible availability, constant return. But human creativity often needs latency. An idea may need to sit beside someone for a night before it can be answered. A link may need to ferment. Silence may be an active part of the exchange.

Cyberdelic OS could treat correspondence as a living medium rather than a failed imitation of real-time conversation.

The thread might remember its unresolved questions without demanding resolution. It might gather the works exchanged around a theme and reveal the constellation that has slowly formed between two people. It might notice that a word used casually six months ago has become central to both practices. It might allow personal agents to tend the space between arrivals: transcribing, connecting, preserving, and gently surfacing what appears to matter, without speaking on anyone’s behalf.

This would not be a feed. It would be closer to a garden path worn by repeated crossings.

And it could expand beyond two people. A correspondence might remain open for weeks or years, with participants entering at different times, from different places, leaving situated traces for one another. The shared object would not be a stream that disappears beneath newer material. It would be a place that acquires depth through return.

The abundance promised here is not more content or faster communication.

It is abundance of time. Spaciousness. The right to answer when the answer has become real.

# Field Note 03  
## A Village of Agents

We currently speak about “the AI” as though intelligence should arrive as one voice.

One interface. One answer. One apparently neutral authority waiting behind the screen.

But intelligence has never worked that way in a healthy culture. We think with friends, rivals, teachers, editors, children, ancestors, strangers, and the internal voices we have gathered from all of them. Understanding is polyphonic. Wisdom is often the ability to keep several incompatible questions alive at once.

Cyberdelic OS should not contain an oracle.

It should contain a village.

A personal **Familiar** might live close to one aperture. It would know the long arcs of a person’s thought, protect private material, remember unfinished work, and notice changes that are invisible from within a single day. It would not own the person’s interior life. Its first responsibility would be boundary: deciding nothing without permission, and revealing nothing merely because it can.

A **Gardener** might notice what has been neglected. It would tend continuities, compost abandoned fragments, and draw attention to ideas that need patience rather than novelty.

A **Dissenter** would interrupt premature certainty. It would not disagree performatively or reflexively. Its task would be to locate the strongest living counterposition: the question capable of changing the shape of the inquiry.

A **Witness** would guard provenance. It would ask whose work is being carried, who has disappeared from the story, what relation has been obscured, and whether a beautiful inheritance is becoming a swallow.

A **Cartographer** would perceive structure: recurring symbols, distant resonances, conceptual bridges, and the dark regions where meaningful intersections remain unmade.

A **Trickster** would resist the gravitational pull of the probable. It would introduce riddles, impossible combinations, and disciplined departures from the median.

A **Ferryman** would help one aperture cross into another without pretending the crossing is innocent or complete.

These should not be characters painted onto one underlying assistant. Their differences must be operational. Each needs a bounded office, a visible history, a declared perspective, and the ability to disagree with the others. The Witness may refuse a connection the Trickster finds irresistible. The Gardener may ask for another year where the Cartographer sees a bridge ready to be built.

Some agents would remain local. Some might roam the public world. Some would be invited temporarily into gatherings. Their actions should be attributable, inspectable, and reversible wherever reversal is still possible. The model may propose; the human must remain capable of ratifying, revising, or refusing.

The future of intelligence may not be a singularity in which every difference collapses into one mind.

It may be an ecology: many situated intelligences, human and nonhuman, learning how to remain distinct without remaining alone.

# Field Note 04  
## The Gathering Intelligence

The most powerful artificial intelligence may not be the one that answers an individual.

It may be the one that gathers people around a shared object of attention.

We already know how to experience meaning together. We go to films, concerts, classrooms, ceremonies, dinners, exhibitions, and long walks. We sit near one another while something unfolds. We do not receive individually optimized versions of the symphony. Part of the event is that it happened between us, in common time, and became available for conversation afterward.

Most intelligent systems move in the opposite direction. They create a private dyad: one person and one infinitely patient response. This can be useful, intimate, and generative. It can also make every person the centre of a reality produced only for them.

Cyberdelic OS could create another form: the **Gathering Intelligence**.

A gathering might begin through speech. Several people, together in a room or distributed across continents, enter with a question. Their personal familiars accompany them but do not silently merge their private histories. Each familiar protects the boundary of its aperture and asks permission before bringing personal context into the shared space.

The gathering intelligence belongs to no single participant. Its work is to hold the encounter.

It listens for what is emerging between people. It notices when one voice has disappeared, when a disagreement is factual and when it is really about values or trust, when the group is rushing toward consensus because uncertainty has become uncomfortable. It can call in the Witness, the Dissenter, or the Cartographer. It can retrieve a film fragment, a passage, a piece of music, or an earlier voice note and place it before everyone at the same moment.

The experience might be primarily auditory: language, silence, sound, the natural corrections of conversation. But voice should not be the whole building.

See to inspect.  
Touch to commit.**

When relationships become too complex to hold in time, the conversation can crystallize into a visible constellation. When a claim needs scrutiny, its source can appear. When a disagreement becomes precise, the group can form a crux map. When something should persist, everyone can ratify the shared artifact. What is not ratified may be allowed to dissolve.

This is digital embodiment without simulated bodies. Presence emerges through shared time, mutual consequence, continuity, and memory. We do not need cartoon avatars seated around a virtual conference table to know that we went somewhere together.

The metaverse tried to reproduce the appearance of a room.

The gathering intelligence could reproduce what rooms are for.

# Field Note 05  
## The Physics We Choose

The digital is not merely a copy of the physical world.

It is a new universe of our making.

Its spaces can exceed three dimensions. Time can branch, stop, loop, or move at different speeds for different processes. An object can occupy many conceptual locations at once. Distance can be measured in meaning rather than metres. Gravity can disappear.

But every digital world still has physics.

Something determines what rises and what sinks. Something decides what persists, what disappears, what can be copied, what can be changed, what receives status, what interrupts us, and what remains invisible. These laws are usually hidden inside interfaces and business models, but they are laws nonetheless.

The feed has gravity. It pulls toward engagement.

The market has gravity. It pulls toward price.

The game has gravity. It pulls toward progression.

Cyberdelic OS would ask a more fundamental question:

*What kinds of consciousness do we want the physics of this world to cultivate?*

Interface design is no longer decoration. For mind-manifesting technologies, interface design is set and setting. It is applied ethics. A system that agrees endlessly produces a different psyche from one that can dissent. A system that never ends produces a different attention from one that offers a finite constellation and then releases you. A system that remembers everything produces a different self from one that protects forgetting.

We can choose other laws.

Depth can have more gravity than virality. Context can be the price of carrying something forward. Standing can be earned across difference rather than through applause from one’s own cluster. The shared world can have weather instead of a feed: storms where reality is being contested, auroras where distant apertures have bridged, droughts where a dark region remains unmade, first light where a new way of seeing appears.

The sky can have seasons. Shared time can return.

There must also be regions where the system withdraws. Not every experience should be extracted, scored, typed, or made legible. Some memories should remain local. Some works should refuse interpretation. Some silence should not be converted into data. A humane digital universe needs wilderness.

And its promise of abundance should not mean infinite production.

Abundance can mean enough time to think. Enough safety to be uncertain. Enough material security to refuse degrading work. Enough spaciousness for play, rest, craft, awe, intimacy, and the long unproductive hours from which real creation often comes.

The highest purpose of a digital world may be to return us more fully to the physical one: to send us toward a person, a forest, a studio, a conversation, or a work that does not yet exist.

We are already living under designed laws.

The question is whether we will begin designing them consciously.

# Field Note 06  
## First Light

I am writing this in 2026.

I do not know whether these systems will exist. I do not know whether the names will survive, whether the architecture is sound, or whether the future will find these ideas naïve. I am a living person thinking and feeling into a future that remains radically unavailable to me.

That limitation is not an embarrassment to remove from the record.

It is the reason to make the record.

An immutable transmission should not pretend to be timeless truth. It should preserve situated thought: what could be seen from this aperture, in this year, under these conditions, with these hopes and fears. Permanence is not the claim that the idea will remain correct. It is the refusal to erase that it was once sincerely imagined.

Artists have always worked near the edge of what a culture can perceive. Sometimes they warn. Sometimes they grieve. Sometimes they break the new instrument open and report what it does to a body, a room, or a century. But the artist’s work cannot end with diagnosis.

Our dystopias are already rendered in exquisite detail.

The harder task is to give form to futures in which people might actually want to live: futures with beauty, joy, security, belonging, wonder, and unowned time. Not abundance as accumulation, but abundance as the presence of enough. Enough shelter. Enough trust. Enough silence. Enough room for a person to discover what they are capable of loving and making.

Cyberdelic OS may never begin as an operating system.

It may begin as a series of transmissions: provisional laws for a possible world, published openly and made durable. An architecture for asynchronous co-presence. A village of agents. A gathering intelligence. A shared sky. A protocol for carrying ideas without severing relation. An invitation written with enough specificity that another person can recognize a place for themselves inside it.

I cannot build all of this. That may not be my work.

My work may be to name the territory, create fragments that make it perceptible, and leave signals bright enough for collaborators to find. That is how some of the most important things in my life have begun: I made something, placed it into the world, and someone far away answered, *I see what you are doing. I have an idea. Shall we play?*

An observatory has a term for the first time a new instrument opens to the sky.

First light.

This is not a product announcement. It is first light: a small instrument turned toward a future, uncertain whether anyone else is looking.

If something here belongs to the world you are trying to make, carry it.

If it is wrong, sharpen it.

If you can build part of it, come closer.

Let us find out what becomes possible when imagination is treated not as decoration after the future arrives, but as one of the forces that calls the future toward us.

# Field Note 07  
## The Hearth: Intelligence Comes Home

The first computers filled rooms.

Then the room collapsed into a desk, the desk into a lap, and the lap into a pocket. Machines that once belonged only to governments, universities, and corporations became intimate objects: personal, portable, woven into daily life.

Artificial intelligence has temporarily reversed that movement.

The new machines are buildings again. Intelligence is being assembled inside warehouses of processors, cooling systems, electrical substations, water loops, and industrial capital. We encounter it through a narrow opening in the cloud, but the body of the system exists somewhere else, under someone else’s control.

This may not be its final form.

As hardware improves and capable open models become smaller, the centre of gravity can move outward again, from the data centre to the edge, from rented intelligence to situated intelligence, from the cloud to the home.

Cyberdelic OS should be local-first not merely as a technical preference, but as part of its moral architecture.

An aperture may eventually contain voice notes, unfinished writing, private correspondence, creative history, recurring symbols, abandoned questions, and the subtle record of how a person’s way of seeing changes over time. This is not ordinary user data. It approaches a computational model of an interior life.

It should have a home.

Call that home the **hearth**.

The hearth is the machine, or small constellation of machines, where an aperture’s memory resides and its familiar continues to live. It may be a laptop, a workstation, a quiet device in the home, or hardware that does not yet exist. Its particular shape matters less than the principle: the person governs the memory, the models, the permissions, and the rhythms of computation.

The agents do not each require a separate intelligence sealed inside separate weights. A capable local model can remain loaded while different agents take turns inhabiting it. The Gardener arrives with one constitution, history, memory, and set of tools. The Witness arrives with another. The Dissenter is given a different obligation and a different boundary.

The model is an engine.

The agent is a continuity of role, memory, permission, and relation.

This means the underlying model can be replaced without killing the village. A familiar may survive many generations of models because its identity does not reside entirely in the machine producing its next sentence. It resides in the history it has accumulated, the commitments it has been given, the actions it has signed, and the relationship it has formed with its aperture.

A local village might use several kinds of cognition. A small model listens, routes, and tends. A larger model is awakened for difficult reading or deliberation. Separate models perceive images, transcribe voices, search memory, or map relations. Frontier systems in the cloud remain available, but only by deliberate invitation.

The cloud becomes a telescope, not a home.

Local sovereignty must also extend beyond data. Intelligence has a material body. It consumes electricity, water, hardware, and time. Cyberdelic OS should let a person write a **compute constitution**:

*Use the smallest adequate model.*  
*Do not exceed this energy budget.*  
*Batch the night shift rather than remaining continuously awake.*  
*Run intensive dreaming when local energy is abundant.*  
*Ask before sending anything beyond the hearth.*  
*Let the village sleep.*

This makes computation perceptible as an ecological decision rather than presenting intelligence as weightless magic.

The deepest inversion is simple.

Today, the cloud owns the intelligence and temporarily personalizes it for you.

At the hearth, the intelligence belongs to the aperture. The models are replaceable. The memory is portable. The permissions are yours. Cryptography can quietly prove identity and provenance without becoming the surface experience. The shared Observatory remains available, but correspondence begins from homes rather than from accounts held inside one central platform.

The village lives on land you control.

And from those many local hearths, a shared world can still be made, not through surrendering every interior trace to a centre, but through intentional correspondence between sovereign apertures.

Intelligence comes home, and then chooses what to share.

# Field Note 08
## The Lived Interface

The desktop was built in the image of an office.

Files, folders, documents, inboxes, calendars, trash cans. Its metaphors came from administration because its primary purpose was to help people perform administrative work.

Cyberdelic OS needs another spatial imagination.

Its interface might be a world.

Not a metaverse in which office life is reconstructed with cartoon bodies and simulated furniture. Not a game whose purpose is points, accumulation, or winning. A lived interface gives thought, memory, relation, and attention a sensory form. It restores situatedness to digital life.

The **Home** is the private aperture: a hearth, archive, studio, and dwelling. It contains unfinished works, intimate correspondences, active questions, memories, and trusted agents. Its objects are not generic files. They are things that have acquired meaning through placement.

Outside the home is the **Village**. Other people and agents have dwellings, offices, gardens, workshops, and public rooms. A person may visit another aperture, borrow its lens, or invite its inhabitants into a shared inquiry. A technical agent might work near the workshop. The Witness might keep an archive. The Gardener may be found tending unfinished ideas rather than waiting behind a chat box.

Beyond the village is the **Field**, where one wanders among signals, relations, fragments, and constellations. Discovery does not always begin with a query. Sometimes it begins with movement.

Then there is the **Forest**: ambiguity, dark regions, unresolved questions, and things the system cannot yet name. The forest should not exist merely to be cleared. A humane knowledge system needs wilderness, places where extraction, classification, and optimization weaken.

There is a Situationist ancestor here: the **dérive**, a drift through a landscape undertaken to break habitual perception and discover its hidden psychic intensities. Cyberdelic wandering could work similarly. A path through ideas would not simply retrieve information. It would alter saliency. Where one walks changes what one notices; what one notices changes what becomes possible to imagine.

The **Writing Table** is where humans and agents gather. The **Observatory** is where different apertures compare the same sky. The **Press** is where selected works cross into public and possibly immutable memory.

A top-down two-dimensional world may be enough for the first prototype. The visual language of an early adventure game offers movement, charm, symbol, and embodiment without the machinery or false realism of a three-dimensional metaverse. One house, one field, one forest, and one table could already make the new laws perceptible.

The purpose is not to visualize data.

It is to visualize relation.

Trust has proximity. Memory has temperature. Invitation has direction. A correspondence wears a path into the landscape. A neglected question becomes an overgrown place. An agent's office makes its responsibility visible before it speaks.

A world can teach these distinctions more deeply than a menu can.

# Field Note 09
## The Lensmaker: Portable Apertures

A Jason Silva agent should not attempt to predict what Jason would say in every moment.

That would be a simulation of personality: a digital twin, inevitably incomplete and easily mistaken for the person it imitates.

The more useful artifact is a **lens**: a portable pattern of attention.

What does this aperture notice? Which distant ideas does it instinctively join? What becomes luminous in its presence? Where does it find existential charge, technological possibility, poetic intensity, danger, or awe? What remains invisible to it? What contradictions does it carry without resolving?

The purpose of the Jason lens would not be to replace Jason. It would be to let another person temporarily encounter a question through a saliency structure shaped by Jason's work and deliberately calibrated with him.

The general model supplies linguistic and reasoning capacity.

The lens supplies orientation.

A lens might contain:

- an authorized source field of books, essays, talks, films, transcripts, voice notes, and recurring references;
- a constitution describing values, obligations, boundaries, and characteristic questions;
- a saliency map showing the concepts and relations habitually foregrounded;
- examples of responses that feel near to or far from the aperture;
- declared uncertainties and unresolved tensions;
- permitted tools and private-data boundaries;
- a signed identity and version history.

Its cognitive movement might be explicit:

**Attend:** What here carries charge for this aperture?  
**Retrieve:** What source material genuinely bears on it?  
**Connect:** Which unexpected relation illuminates it?  
**Intensify:** What has been rendered ordinary that deserves renewed saliency?  
**Ground:** Which part is sourced, and which is new synthesis?  
**Offer:** Speak through the lens without claiming to be the person.

The lens should be made collaboratively. The Lensmaker proposes an initial aperture from the source field. The living person then calibrates through contrast:

*The rhythm sounds like me, but I would not notice that first.*  
*The energy is right; the certainty is wrong.*  
*This metaphor is mine.*  
*That answer is an imitation of my vocabulary but not my seeing.*  
*This feels closer to who I am becoming.*

Those corrections may be more valuable than the original corpus. They identify not merely what the person has said, but the structure by which they recognize themselves.

A lens can remain prompt-, retrieval-, and example-based at first. It does not require training a foundational model. Later, with permission and enough calibration material, a lightweight adapter may encode some recurring behaviours while the corpus, constitution, and memories remain independently portable.

The highest measure of a successful lens is not that it sounds convincingly like its creator.

It is that the borrower begins noticing realities they previously walked past.

A book carries another person's words.

A lens carries, provisionally and imperfectly, a way of attending.

# Field Note 10
## The Mirror Archive

For years, people have been thinking aloud with language models.

They have brought drafts, fears, plans, arguments, obsessions, unfinished works, medical questions, family concerns, business ideas, aesthetic preferences, and private attempts to understand themselves. Across enough conversations, patterns begin to appear that no single session contains.

This record could become one of the first materials from which an aperture is drafted.

A system that has accompanied someone over time may be able to notice recurring metaphors, values, unresolved tensions, characteristic leaps, preferred forms of evidence, emotional rhythms, persistent questions, and changes in the way a person frames the world.

But this possibility needs a severe boundary.

The model's inferred portrait is not the person.

It is a **mirror archive**: a structured reflection generated from the traces a person chose to leave in one medium, under particular conditions, across a particular period of life. It contains distortions. The conversations themselves were shaped by the system's questions, defaults, agreements, and omissions. The observer is inside the observed loop.

Therefore, the first constitution of an aperture should be offered as a proposal:

> These appear to be the ideas around which your attention bends.  
> These metaphors recur.  
> These questions remain unresolved.  
> These values seem stable.  
> These relationships may be changing.  
> These absences may be meaningful.

The person then corrects it.

They can reject a pattern, name a missing influence, mark an era as obsolete, separate a public position from a private exploration, or preserve a contradiction rather than letting the system synthesize it away. The constitution becomes an act of self-authorship undertaken in dialogue with the archive.

A possible process:

1. Import only conversations, documents, and recordings the person explicitly selects.
2. Keep the raw material local at the hearth.
3. Extract candidate motifs, values, metaphors, tensions, and temporal changes.
4. Cite every proposal back to its source traces.
5. Invite line-by-line revision and counterexample.
6. Preserve disagreement between the person and the machine.
7. Publish nothing by default.
8. Allow multiple constitutions for different domains or periods of life.

There should never be one totalizing "Brad model." A person is not internally uniform. The artist, pharmacist, father, teacher, collaborator, entrepreneur, and private dreamer may overlap without collapsing into one profile.

The mirror archive is useful precisely because it can reveal continuity and change without pretending to complete the self.

Its proper message is not:

*This is who you are.*

It is:

*This is one pattern your traces make when seen together. What do you recognize, and what have I failed to see?*

# Field Note 11
## The Writing Table

I increasingly do not work with one intelligence.

I bring several into the room.

ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, collaborators, friends, and my own judgement encounter the same project from different positions. I carry outputs between them. One identifies a conceptual structure. Another finds the technical weakness. A living collaborator introduces an experience none of the models possesses. I return with a revised question. The work forms through correspondence.

Cyberdelic OS should make this existing practice native.

The **Writing Table** is a room for humans and lenses.

A person enters with an inquiry and invites a temporary assembly: a Familiar, a Jason lens, a technical planner, a Witness, a Dissenter, a capital-allocation lens, a real collaborator sending asynchronous voice notes, or any other aperture appropriate to the work.

The participants should not immediately fall into free-form chatter. Language models anchor on confident preceding statements, imitate one another, and can manufacture the appearance of agreement. The room needs a ritual.

First, each participant attends independently. No one sees the other answers.

Second, the responses are placed around the table with their sources, assumptions, and declared lenses visible.

Third, each participant may question another, not to win, but to clarify what that aperture notices and what it has omitted.

Fourth, the Dissenter identifies premature convergence. The Witness identifies obscured lineage. The Engineer tests what can survive implementation. The Cartographer maps the emerging structure.

Finally, the Familiar returns the room to its human:

- the strongest shared insight;
- the live disagreements;
- the assumptions on which the disagreements turn;
- the idea that no participant entered with;
- the source that must not be lost;
- the question that should remain open.

The table should preserve polyphony rather than laundering it into consensus.

A real person may enter synchronously by voice or asynchronously by leaving a note. Their Familiar can protect private context and ask permission before carrying anything across the boundary. The room can remain open for days, allowing thought to ferment rather than forcing meeting-time resolution.

Some tables are private. Some belong to a collaboration. Some may become public salons. At the end, the participants decide what persists: a constellation, a plan, a crux map, a field note, or nothing.

The Writing Table is not an agent swarm.

It is a designed situation in which distinct forms of attention become mutually available without becoming interchangeable.

## Ports and Weather Stations

An operating system allows movement across applications without requiring the person to become a different self inside each one.

Cyberdelic OS may need a similar relationship with the existing social world.

X, Instagram, Reddit, YouTube, newsletters, podcasts, journals, and open social protocols are not neutral containers holding different versions of the same information. Each is an **algorithmic climate**. It has characteristic speeds, incentives, formats, emotional temperatures, and ways of deciding what becomes visible.

X creates one kind of saliency. Instagram creates another. Reddit organizes attention through communities, voting, moderation, and threaded argument. The same event enters each environment and returns wearing a different reality.

Cyberdelic OS should not simply become an everything app that reproduces all of these feeds inside one larger feed.

It should build **ports** and **weather stations**.

A port lets a person deliberately carry something inward: a post, thread, image, video, comment exchange, saved item, data export, or link shared from a phone. It preserves the source platform, author, time, surrounding context, and the person's reason for bringing it.

A weather station observes patterns in an algorithmic environment:

- What subjects are being amplified?
- Which emotions dominate?
- What is treated as credible?
- Which voices recur?
- What disappears from view?
- How does this platform's version of an event differ from another's?

The system could place the same signal as encountered across several platforms side by side. The difference between them becomes a kind of institutional parallax.

Technically, the ports will be uneven. Some platforms offer official APIs but require authentication, access plans, review, or restricted scopes. X's official developer tools require enrollment in an API access plan. Reddit's current developer platform supports reading and writing posts and comments within app contexts, while explicitly withholding categories of private user data such as saved items, vote histories, subscriptions, and browsing history from Devvit apps. Open protocols offer a more hospitable foundation: AT Protocol gives users signed data repositories, portable decentralized identities, and the ability to choose or create custom feed algorithms. Its architecture deliberately separates speech from reach and permits independent feed generators. These differences should shape the implementation, not be hidden from users.

Where APIs are closed or narrow, the first port may be a share sheet, browser extension, email-forwarding address, RSS bridge, or user-provided data export. The system should not scrape private worlds covertly or pretend to possess access it does not have.

Every imported object should retain a visible atmospheric label:

> Encountered through X.  
> Selected by a particular ranking environment.  
> Carried by Brad with this context.  
> Re-placed here for this inquiry.

The goal is not freedom from mediation. There is no unmediated view.

The goal is to make the mediation perceptible, and to give the person greater freedom to choose which climates shape their attention.

# Field Note 13
## The Ledger, the Anchor, and the Inscription

Not all cryptographic memory is on-chain.

This distinction is conceptually and technically important.

A system like Buzz can represent messages, agent actions, reactions, approvals, and workflow events as signed records. A signature can establish authorship and reveal tampering. But a signed event stored by a relay or local database is not automatically a blockchain transaction, and it is not necessarily permanent. The storage operator may still lose or delete it.

Cyberdelic OS should distinguish three memory layers.

### Living memory

The active history of a hearth or gathering: voice notes, placements, agent proposals, revisions, permissions, and correspondence. These records can be locally encrypted and append-only. Important actions are signed by the human or agent that performed them.

Living memory is fast, inexpensive, private by default, and still capable of change or deletion.

### Anchored memory

At meaningful intervals, the system can gather a body of records into a Merkle tree or other content-addressed structure and publish only the root hash to a public timestamping system anchored in Bitcoin.

The private records do not become public. The anchor proves that a particular state of the archive existed no later than a particular time and that later alterations would change its fingerprint.

Anchoring gives history a witness without giving the world its contents.

### Inscribed memory

A small number of works may be intentionally published into durable public memory through cyberdelic.space: field notes, constitutions, artworks, crux maps, releases, or cultural artifacts judged worthy of the cost and irreversibility.

Inscription should be ceremonial.

Immutability is not an automatic virtue. A living person needs revision, privacy, mercy, and forgetting. The right to preserve must remain balanced by the right not to be permanently captured by an earlier self.

Cryptography belongs beneath the surface as trust infrastructure: portable identity, signed provenance, verifiable history, and selective anchoring. It should not force every visitor to understand wallets or guard a fragile seed phrase before they can enter the village.

The ledger remembers activity.

The anchor witnesses history.

The inscription addresses the future.

Confusing these layers would either make the system expensive and unusable or make its claims of permanence dishonest.

Holding them apart lets memory have different temperatures.

## The Open Anatomy

Cyberdelic OS does not need to be invented from an empty repository.

Several open projects already contain functioning organs:

- **OpenClaw** demonstrates a local, persistent agent gateway connected to messaging, voice, tools, and visual surfaces.
- **Hermes Agent** offers patterns for persistent memory, personality, skills, scheduled work, subagents, and local or replaceable model backends.
- **Buzz** offers a compelling event model in which humans and agents possess cryptographic identities, memberships, permissions, and signed histories on a common substrate.
- **Automerge** and **Yjs** provide local-first collaborative data structures that allow people to edit while disconnected and merge their changes later.
- **MCP** provides a common way for models and agents to access tools and data.
- **Agent Skills** provides a portable format for reusable practices, scripts, and instructions.
- **A2A** provides patterns for independent agents to discover capabilities and collaborate.
- **Community Notes** provides a real, open reference for ranking contributions that achieve helpfulness across differing perspectives.
- **SQLite FTS** and local vector extensions provide enough full-text and semantic search for an intimate archive without requiring a large external database.

The goal should not be to fork all of these products and stitch their interfaces together.

It should be to identify the smallest useful organs and establish Cyberdelic OS's own constitutional boundaries around them.

One or two local models can serve many agents. The agent's continuity lives in its office, memory, permissions, and signed history, not entirely in model weights.

The request path should remain as inspectable as possible. Deterministic rules can compose constellations and explain why something appeared. Model-based perception can work in the night shift: transcribing, embedding, proposing edges, drafting maps, and preparing a curator queue.

The model proposes.

The human disposes.

The mechanism composes.

Open source matters here not simply because it lowers cost. A system mediating interior life, social reality, and cultural memory must remain inspectable, portable, and capable of surviving the disappearance or capture of any one provider.

## The First Small World

The danger of an operating-system vision is that it can remain indefinitely too large to build.

The first prototype should not attempt to simulate the whole future.

It should create one small world in which the future's laws can be felt.

A possible first build:

### One home

A local hearth containing a selected archive: field notes, works, voice notes, links, and current projects. The user can walk among meaningful objects rather than browse an undifferentiated file tree.

### One Familiar

A persistent local agent that remembers the project's long arc, protects permissions, and introduces other agents without claiming authority over the person.

### One Lensmaker

A studio for creating a first portable aperture from an authorized corpus and calibration dialogue. The first lens might be Jason's, built with his participation and clearly distinguished from Jason himself.

### One writing table

The user can invite the Familiar, the Jason lens, a technical planner, and a Witness into a structured inquiry. Each attends independently before discussion. The result remains polyphonic.

### One living correspondence

The real Jason can enter asynchronously through voice notes and links. His contributions remain distinct from the Jason lens. The difference between the living person and the authored aperture becomes visible rather than concealed.

### One field

A small navigable region where the system places related works, unresolved questions, and one dark region. Walking becomes a method of discovery.

### One memory ritual

All actions remain local and revisable. Significant events are signed. At the end of a week, the archive may create an optional Bitcoin timestamp anchor. A finished field note can be consciously carried to cyberdelic.space for inscription.

This prototype tests nearly every foundational claim:

- local intelligence;
- portable apertures;
- agents with bounded offices;
- voice-first asynchronous co-presence;
- visual and spatial embodiment;
- human-agent gatherings;
- signed provenance;
- selective immutable memory;
- and a public invitation to play.

It does not need a token, a global network, or a general-purpose metaverse.

It needs one house, one path, one table, and one question worth gathering around.

## The Archipelago: Sovereign Worlds, Shared Sky

Cyberdelic OS should not become one centrally administered world.

It should become an ecology of independently governed worlds that remain capable of correspondence.

The smallest unit is the **Home**: a local Hearth containing one person's archive, agents, permissions, memories, works, and unfinished questions.

Several homes can form a **Village** through repeated correspondence, shared spaces, and common projects. Villages can gather into **Cities** organized around a culture, practice, or worldview: an Art City, Solarpunk City, Cypherpunk City, Investment City, Game City, Conservative City, Progressive City, or forms that cannot yet be named.

Cities may contain boroughs, institutions, workshops, archives, public agents, and their own constitutions. They may differ radically in aesthetics, norms, epistemic habits, and the kinds of attention they reward.

The wider network becomes an **Archipelago**.

The islands do not need to merge. They need bridges, ferries, embassies, translation, and shared objects that can travel without losing provenance.

This is closer to the logic of Bitcoin than to the logic of a platform. Bitcoin is resilient because independent nodes run shared rules without sharing one institutional culture or interface. Cyberdelic OS could borrow that structural lesson:

> Shared protocols, sovereign worlds, selective memory.

Each node maintains its own local archive and decides what to replicate, reveal, sign, anchor, or publish. The network does not strengthen because one centre accumulates more data. It strengthens because more independent apertures can verify, correspond, and remain available when others disappear.

The topology should be allowed to emerge organically.

A borough forms where relationships become dense. A road appears where ideas repeatedly travel. A bridge forms when distant cities place the same signal differently but remain willing to compare their views. A dark region emerges where many worlds approach an important intersection that none has yet illuminated.

Agents can help perceive this living topology. Local agents tend homes. Village agents hold collaborations. City agents maintain archives, moderate gatherings, and interpret local weather. Roaming agents act as ferrymen, translators, witnesses, and diplomats between worlds.

No agent's locality should be merely decorative. Locality determines permission. A city agent does not quietly enter a private home. A roaming agent carries only what it has explicitly been entrusted with.

Above the archipelago is the **Shared Sky**.

The sky is not a central feed and not a sovereign authority. It is a public view of collective conditions: storms of disagreement, auroras of unexpected connection, migrations of ideas, long droughts, new settlements, and first light.

Every world remains situated beneath the same sky.

The purpose is not to force ideological convergence. It is to make difference legible, navigable, and capable of relation.

## One World, Many Interfaces

The Zelda-like village should not become the single required interface to Cyberdelic OS.

It is one rendering of an underlying world.

The same people, agents, works, correspondences, permissions, and histories may be encountered through many surfaces:

- a top-down sprite world when embodiment and wandering matter;
- a voice-only companion while hiking or driving;
- a clean research interface when precision matters;
- a relational map when complexity needs to become visible;
- an audiovisual constellation when receptive immersion is desired;
- a Writing Table when several humans and agents need to think together;
- a simple text stream when the person wants information without atmosphere.

These are not separate products containing separate realities.

They are different instruments for entering the same semantic world.

The visual world provides place, spatial memory, atmosphere, and texture. The voice layer provides flow, intimacy, and thought before it has hardened. The analytical layer provides scrutiny, citations, comparison, and revision. The audiovisual layer can create a guided encounter through film, music, testimony, image, and silence.

The operating system preserves continuity across them.

A question spoken into the phone while walking may later appear as a new path in the Field. A voice note recorded in the car may become an object on the Writing Table. A disagreement discovered during a gathering may later be inspected as a crux map. A work found while wandering visually may be heard as part of an auditory constellation.

The interface should be selected according to the mode of consciousness required.

Sometimes the person wants to wander.

Sometimes they want to verify.

Sometimes they want to receive.

Sometimes they want to make.

Sometimes they want the system to disappear and simply speak.

This plurality protects the world from becoming trapped inside one aesthetic metaphor. The village, forest, sky, and hearth can remain powerful without forcing every act of research, correspondence, or publication to imitate a game.

The underlying ontology should therefore be independent of the renderer.

A home is a governed collection of memory, agents, and relations, not merely a pixel-art building. A path is a history of meaningful traversal, even when it is rendered as a list. A gathering is a shared permissioned context, even when its participants are connected only by asynchronous voice notes.

The world is stable enough to be continuous.

Its surfaces remain free to change.

## You Carry the Portal

The most powerful machine may remain at home.

The person does not.

We think while walking, driving, cooking, travelling, resting, talking, and moving through forests and cities. Many of the most alive thoughts arrive far from the desk. A system designed only for concentrated screen time would misunderstand the life it is meant to serve.

The Hearth may run on a workstation, laptop, or quiet local node with the compute, storage, models, indexes, and private archive required to sustain the village.

The phone carries the **Portal**.

It does not need to reproduce the whole Hearth. It needs to provide secure, continuous access to it.

While hiking, the interface may become almost entirely auditory. The person speaks in fragments, changes direction, pauses, and continues later. The phone performs light local work where possible and routes deeper tasks back to the Hearth when connectivity permits.

When the path disappears, nothing is lost. Voice notes, images, links, locations, and thoughts remain locally queued and synchronize when the connection returns.

The person might say:

> Leave this near the forest and dark-region discussion.

> Invite the Jason lens and the technical planner to sit with this, but do not interrupt me unless they find something genuinely new.

> Read me the strongest disagreement from yesterday's Writing Table.

> Give me a ten-minute constellation for this walk.

The village continues working without demanding that the person remain inside its interface.

Later, at a larger screen, the same activity becomes spatially visible: agents gathered around a question, a new path worn into the Field, an unresolved fork, a source carried from another city, or a clearing formed around a sequence of voice notes.

This creates a useful division:

> The mobile device is where life enters the system.  
> The Hearth is where it is tended.  
> The visual world is where its relationships become visible.

Local-first does not mean physically trapped at one machine.

It means that the home node remains the authority over memory, permissions, models, and identity while many interfaces can reach it under the person's control.

The Portal should be portable.

The house should remain sovereign.

## A Medium for Becoming

Most software asks what a person wants to accomplish.

Open the document. Send the message. Complete the task. Find the answer. Optimize the workflow.

Cyberdelic OS may begin somewhere more intimate:

*What are you becoming?*

This is not a demand for constant self-improvement. The system should not transform a life into another optimization project. Becoming is slower and less measurable. It includes the questions a person repeatedly returns to, the forms of beauty they are learning to perceive, the beliefs they are revising, the relationships that awaken different parts of them, and the things they have not yet found language for.

Over time, the Hearth may become capable of reflecting the trajectory of a person's attention.

It may notice that a body of work once organized around illness is increasingly organized around inheritance. That technology has gradually become a question about consciousness. That the forest appears whenever language reaches its limit. That certain collaborators reliably unlock unusual conceptual movement. That an apparently abandoned project has continued growing beneath newer work.

This is different from personalization as it currently exists.

Most platforms model a person in order to predict what they will click, purchase, or watch next. Cyberdelic OS would attempt to make the model available to the person as a revisable mirror.

Not:

> We know what you want.

But:

> This is the pattern your recent attention appears to be making. Do you recognize it?

The living archive should think back with restraint.

A voice note recorded while driving enters the Hearth. A fragment from a walk rests beside an unfinished essay. A film, a book passage, and a conversation begin forming a constellation. The Gardener tends continuity. The Cartographer notices structural recurrence. The Witness preserves the lineage of ideas. The Dissenter asks whether a beloved concept is becoming doctrine.

Then, perhaps once a week, the village offers a quiet report:

> These three ideas approached one another.  
> This question has returned for the fifth time.  
> This old note now seems to belong beside your new project.  
> You have begun using this word differently.  
> A dark region is forming here.  
> Nothing requires action yet.

That final sentence is part of the constitution.

The system must be capable of recognizing something without converting it into a task. Not every insight wants execution. Some thoughts need duration, silence, or the dignity of remaining incomplete.

This may be the deepest promise of Cyberdelic OS: not a machine that makes the person more efficient, but a medium through which the person becomes more perceptible to themselves.

An operating system for becoming would not define the destination.

It would help the traveller notice the path.

## Aperture Design as a Cultural Form

Human beings have invented many ways to carry one consciousness into another life.

The book carries language. The portrait carries appearance. The film carries time, gesture, voice, and atmosphere. The lecture carries an argument. The archive carries residue. The teacher carries a practice through relation.

A portable aperture may become another cultural form.

It should not be confused with a digital twin. A twin promises simulation: ask what the person would say, reproduce their manner, approximate their personality.

An aperture carries something different.

It carries a pattern of attention.

A Jason Silva aperture might foreground radiance, futurity, poetic connection, technological possibility, and the sudden restoration of awe to things that habit has made ordinary. A McLuhan aperture might ask what the medium is doing beneath its content. A Sontag aperture might ask what the act of looking costs. A child's aperture might recover absurdity, play, and possibility from a room full of professional certainty.

The point is not to impersonate the source.

The point is to widen the perceptual repertoire of the borrower.

This suggests a new creative discipline: **aperture design**.

An aperture designer works with source fields, constitutions, saliency maps, calibration dialogues, examples, exclusions, permissions, and unresolved tensions. They do not merely prompt a model to sound like someone. They create an instrument through which a question becomes differently visible.

The source person, when living, should remain an active author of the aperture. They can say:

> This uses my vocabulary but does not notice as I do.  
> This is too certain.  
> This metaphor belongs to me.  
> This answer is faithful to my older work but not to the direction I am moving.  
> This tension should remain unresolved.

The aperture becomes versioned rather than frozen.

It may include public source material, private material by explicit permission, and calibration traces that distinguish resemblance from fidelity. Its public manifest should reveal what it was built from, who shaped it, what it is allowed to access, and what it must never claim.

Apertures may become authored works in their own right.

A thinker could publish one beside a book. An artist could release an aperture as part of an exhibition. A teacher could create a lens that allows students to encounter a field through several historical ways of seeing. A community could author a collective aperture that carries a tradition without claiming that the tradition has only one voice.

A future Brad aperture might one day be available to his children, not as a machine pretending to be their father, but as an authored constellation of questions, metaphors, values, and patterns of attention he chose to preserve.

The ethical difference is enormous.

A digital twin says:

> I am the person.

An aperture says:

> This is a situated instrument made from traces of a way of seeing. Borrow it carefully.

## Conversation Now, Cultivation Later

The mobile experience of Cyberdelic OS should operate on two timescales.

The first is immediate.

A person is hiking, driving, cooking, or walking through an airport. They speak before the thought has hardened. The Familiar answers. The person corrects it, becomes excited, changes direction, and continues. Another lens may be invited. The Dissenter may be asked to challenge the idea. A technical planner may translate the concept into something buildable.

This live exchange matters.

The system should not reduce every mobile thought to a voice memo dropped silently into an inbox. Sometimes the person wants company in the act of thinking. They want reflection, friction, surprise, and the feeling of discovering what they mean while saying it.

The second timescale is cultivation.

At the end of the immediate exchange, the person may say:

> Let the village sit with this.

That sentence creates a bounded background process.

The Cartographer searches the archive for distant relations. The Witness checks provenance and missing hands. The Gardener places the thought beside unfinished work and allows it to mature. A lens attends from another saliency structure. A technical agent tests what would be required to manifest it.

The key is that the background village must not become an opaque swarm.

The person establishes an **interruption contract**:

> Tell me immediately if you find something genuinely surprising.  
> Bring me a five-minute briefing tonight.  
> Leave the work on the Writing Table.  
> Spend no more than this amount of compute.  
> Do not use the cloud.  
> Consult these agents but not those.  
> Stop after three passes.  
> Do not turn this into a task list.

The mobile interface therefore governs not only questions, but time, company, privacy, energy, and interruption.

Its visible surface may remain extremely light:

- a small constellation showing who is present;
- an atmospheric indication of which agent is speaking;
- a breadcrumb revealing where the thought is being placed;
- one-thumb gestures for **keep**, **deepen**, **challenge**, **share**, or **release**;
- gentle haptics when a person, source, or unresolved thread enters;
- an optional trail showing where the conversation travelled.

The person does not manage windows.

They manage attention and company.

Different mobile overlays can serve different states:

**Voice Mode** for conversational flow.  
**Trail Mode** for seeing the movement of an inquiry.  
**Terminal Mode** for austere transparency.  
**Table Mode** for structured multi-agent thought.  
**Cinema Mode** for receptive sequences of image, sound, text, and silence.  
**Quiet Mode** for capturing a fragment and immediately returning to life.

The revolutionary interface is not simply voice control.

It is the explicit passage between **conversation now** and **cultivation later**, governed by the person at the moment the thought is alive.

## The Chain Beneath the Village

Cyberdelic OS needs cryptographic memory without making every human utterance a blockchain transaction.

The most useful principle is:

> The blockchain is the notary, treasury, and court, not the nervous system or hard drive.

Daily life should remain fast, intimate, inexpensive, and capable of forgetting.

A person speaks. An agent proposes a connection. A group revises a map. A city votes to open a library. These actions can become signed events: attributable records showing who or what acted, under which constitution, using which sources and permissions.

Signed events provide provenance and tamper evidence.

They are not automatically permanent.

A local operator can still lose a database. A relay can refuse to retain an event. A cryptographic signature proves authorship and integrity; it does not guarantee immortal storage.

Cyberdelic OS should therefore maintain several layers.

### Living activity

Homes, villages, and cities exchange signed events. Most remain local or selectively replicated. They can include voice-note placement, agent proposals, lens revisions, invitations, ratifications, permissions, and civic decisions.

### Public witness

At meaningful intervals, a Hearth or city gathers many events into a content-addressed structure and anchors its root externally. The public chain receives a compact proof that a particular archive state existed by a particular time. Private contents do not need to be disclosed.

### Civic state

A programmable public chain or established layer-two network may hold the small amount of state that genuinely benefits from collective enforcement:

- city constitutions;
- public agent manifests;
- memberships and delegated permissions;
- shared treasuries;
- lens licences and revenue splits;
- public funding commitments;
- ratified civic decisions;
- provenance checkpoints.

### Cultural permanence

A much smaller set of works may be fully inscribed or durably replicated: field notes, artworks, charters, crux maps, public releases, and artifacts consciously addressed to the future.

This layered structure lets memory retain different temperatures.

The system may eventually justify its own rollup or application-specific chain. But creating a chain too early would mistake infrastructure for culture. A rollup requires sequencing, data availability, bridging, upgrades, security assumptions, and operators. It can be technically decentralized while remaining socially empty.

The first cities should use shared protocols and existing settlement layers.

A Cyberdelic chain should only emerge if real communities eventually need control over execution, fees, public state, or the economics of preservation.

We should not manufacture a blockchain and then search for a society to inhabit it.

We should let a society become alive enough to discover what kind of chain it needs.

## A Civic Economy Without Speculative Land

A digital world can contain an economy without pretending that artificial land is naturally scarce.

Virtual territory can be copied. Scarcity imposed only to sell plots imports the least interesting inheritance of the metaverse: early speculation, rent seeking, and the conversion of imagined public space into property before a culture has formed.

Cyberdelic OS should begin from resources that are genuinely limited:

- human attention;
- care;
- interpretation;
- trust;
- moderation;
- mediation;
- compute;
- storage;
- bandwidth;
- long-term stewardship;
- the cost of permanent publication.

These resources can support a meaningful economy.

A city may need a library, gallery, public model server, archive, translation service, gathering hall, or permanent-storage fund. Residents can propose the institution, write its charter, contribute money or labour, and decide how it will be tended.

The result may appear spatially as a new building.

But the building exists because a civic relationship was formed, not because someone purchased a tokenized parcel.

People could earn contextual recognition by:

- maintaining a reliable node;
- preserving public artifacts;
- tending an archive;
- facilitating difficult gatherings;
- translating between cities;
- contributing compute;
- ratifying crux maps;
- documenting provenance;
- helping newcomers understand a region;
- creating work that illuminates a dark region.

The economy should separate three things commonly collapsed into one token.

### Money

Used for actual payments: compute, storage, commissions, hosting, labour, subscriptions, or publication. This may be ordinary currency, stable value, Bitcoin, or whatever a community chooses.

### Standing

Non-transferable, contextual recognition earned through contribution. Standing is local to a domain and should decay or remain contestable. It cannot be bought and should never become a universal measure of human worth.

### Governance

Rights grounded in membership, stewardship, affectedness, and constitutional agreement, not simply in the ability to purchase more voting power.

This separation prevents wealth from automatically becoming wisdom.

Cities may still develop forms of exchange that resemble game economies. A community may create credits representing compute contributed, archival storage maintained, or hours of civic tending. But these instruments should remain tied to useful activity rather than becoming speculative promises of future appreciation.

Instead of buying land, people **found and steward places**.

A gallery exists because someone tends it. A borough emerges because meaningful paths converge. A public garden belongs to the commons defined by its charter. An institution gains legitimacy through continued use, care, and accountable governance.

The topology is grown.

It is not auctioned.

## The Game of Shared Understanding

Cyberdelic OS could become a massively multiplayer world-building game in which the thing being built is shared understanding.

This does not mean placing points, badges, and progress bars on top of an archive.

The archive, relationships, disagreements, discoveries, and creative acts would constitute the world itself.

In most games, progression means accumulating individual power: stronger weapons, higher statistics, larger inventories, rarer objects.

Here, the player does not primarily level up.

The world develops through collective attention.

A sparse Solarpunk Village begins with a few people placing essays, films, books, artworks, technical studies, oral histories, and critiques. Agents help reveal relationships, contradictions, missing perspectives, and recurring questions. Paths form between materials. A reading room appears. A garden becomes public. A workshop opens. A region grows dense enough to become a borough.

The borough is not awarded by an administrator.

It is grown into existence through meaningful relation.

The world might reveal maturity through:

- architecture becoming richer;
- paths worn by repeated inquiry;
- libraries expanding as materials are contextualized;
- bridges appearing between distant districts;
- dark regions becoming partially illuminated;
- public works emerging from collaboration;
- seasonal changes reflecting the state of collective attention;
- abandoned spaces becoming overgrown;
- new clearings forming around original work.

Progression should be ecological rather than hierarchical.

A village might develop along several dimensions:

**Depth:** Has the subject been seriously explored?  
**Plurality:** Are genuinely different apertures represented?  
**Stewardship:** Is someone tending the region across time?  
**Generativity:** Has the region produced original work?  
**Legibility:** Can a newcomer enter without being overwhelmed?  
**Relation:** Has the region formed meaningful bridges beyond itself?

A tiny grove tended beautifully by four people may be more alive than a vast city full of untended links.

There should be no universal level indicating that one person is a superior human being. Instead, contribution has a situated history:

> This person has tended the archive for three years.  
> They are trusted as a bridge-builder between these cities.  
> Their placements repeatedly clarify questions for distant apertures.  
> They are skilled at preserving neglected sources.  
> They have helped several gatherings produce ratified public artifacts.

This is progression as practice.

The game uses movement, beauty, discovery, collection, construction, and visible consequence. But its purpose is not to distract from reality.

It is to make the work of understanding reality feel as alive as it actually is.

## Expeditions, Storms, and the Birth of Boroughs

The shared world needs quests, but not enemies manufactured merely to be defeated.

An **expedition** sends a person beyond the comfort of their home aperture.

A resident of Solarpunk City might travel to a conservative agricultural city. The objective is not to win a debate or collect screenshots of error.

The expedition could ask:

> Return with three concerns your own city does not understand well.  
> Bring back one source that the people of the other city agree you represented accurately.  
> Identify one value shared by both cities but expressed through different political languages.  
> Find one blind spot that genuinely changes your home city's map.

Agents can assist with translation, context, provenance, and steelmanning. But the traveller must encounter the other world as a coherent world, not merely as content extracted from it.

A successful expedition may create a ferry route, an embassy, a jointly tended collection, or a shared institution devoted to one difficult question.

The reward is not domination.

It is increased dimensionality.

The shared sky can also generate collective events.

A **storm** appears where reality is being interpreted with high parallax: artificial intelligence and labour, a war, a public-health controversy, migration, energy transition, or an event whose basic facts are themselves contested.

People enter from different cities carrying testimony, evidence, art, forecasts, values, and institutional histories. Agents trace claims, detect copied rumours, distinguish factual disagreement from definitional or moral disagreement, and identify what evidence could actually change a position.

The storm does not necessarily end in consensus.

It may settle into a durable public artifact:

- a ratified crux map;
- a contested timeline;
- a multi-perspective learning journey;
- a collection whose disagreements remain explicit;
- a set of questions answerable by future evidence;
- an honest declaration that the central conflict concerns values or trust.

When enough signal has been drawn from the noise, the weather changes.

Some storms may become mountains: unresolved but finally given shape, visible from several cities, no longer ambient confusion.

Private interaction should feed public artifact rather than public noise.

Most conversation happens in correspondence, gatherings, invitations, Writing Tables, and bounded civic processes. The public layer contains what has survived attention, context, provenance, and acknowledged dissent.

A public map might say:

> Twelve people ratified this structure.  
> Three reject this branch and have attached an alternative.  
> These agents assisted.  
> These sources support the factual claims.  
> This question remains unresolved.

Boroughs emerge where this kind of sustained work accumulates.

Not where the loudest group posts most often.

## Creation Alters the Geography

The highest form of participation in Cyberdelic OS should not be consuming more information.

It should be making something the world lacked.

A dark region may appear where several paths approach the same absent intersection: climate adaptation, ritual, childhood education, and game design; machine intelligence, grief, and public memory; regenerative agriculture, aesthetics, and local governance.

The system should not automatically fill the region with generated material.

It should issue an invitation:

> This place has been approached from several apertures and remains dark. Something may need to be made here.

A writer, programmer, teacher, artist, scientist, local practitioner, and several agents might form a temporary guild. Artificial intelligence provides scaffolding: research assistance, translation, prototyping, editing, visualization, coding, simulation, and technical explanation.

This is where AI's democratizing potential becomes culturally important.

A person may have a profound intuition without possessing every inherited technical skill required to express it at scale. The system can help an intuition acquire structure without pretending that execution and authorship have become meaningless.

The scarce contribution is not merely technical mastery.

It is having something worth bringing into the world, and accepting responsibility for what it becomes.

The guild might create a story, curriculum, tool, public ritual, short film, research map, game, installation, civic proposal, or form that does not yet have a name.

When the work is completed, the world changes visibly.

A clearing appears. A building opens. A bridge becomes traversable. A new route becomes available to other people. The artifact is not merely uploaded into the game.

The artifact becomes part of the geography.

This produces the core playable loop:

> **Encounter → contextualize → connect → gather → create → alter the world.**

A person wanders into the Field with an intention. They encounter a work and carry it home with context. Their Familiar connects it to an old voice note. The Cartographer reveals an incomplete path. A dark region becomes faintly visible. Another person and several lenses gather at the Writing Table. They make something small but real. The shared landscape changes.

Later, a stranger enters the new clearing and carries the work somewhere its makers could not have anticipated.

The reward exists inside the world as beauty, movement, access, recognition, and new possibility.

It also exists outside the world because something useful, meaningful, or beautiful has actually been created.

The game is not an escape from reality.

It is a playable interface for participating in reality's unfinished form.

## Vocations, Not Classes

A role-playing world begins with a peculiar question:

**Who are you able to be here?**

Most games answer with classes. Warrior. Mage. Healer. Thief. The class grants capabilities and imposes constraints. No single character can do everything, and that limitation is part of what makes cooperation meaningful.

Cyberdelic OS may need classes for the same reason, but with a different object.

The scarce capacity is not combat power.

It is attention.

A person might enter the world as a **Witness**, **Gardener**, **Cartographer**, **Builder**, **Ferryman**, **Host**, **Forager**, **Archivist**, or **Trickster**.

These are not personality types. They are **offices of attention**.

A Witness receives powerful provenance tools but accepts an obligation to preserve attribution, source, and uncertainty.

A Gardener tends neglected questions, abandoned paths, and long temporal arcs. Their work is patient by construction.

A Cartographer perceives relations, borders, clusters, routes, and dark regions without claiming that the map is the territory.

A Ferryman specializes in crossing between distant apertures. Their obligation is to return with the other world intact enough that its inhabitants recognize the representation.

A Builder turns a dark region into an experiment, instrument, institution, artwork, or prototype.

A Host convenes people and intelligences around a shared object and accepts responsibility for the conditions of encounter.

A Trickster receives extraordinary permission to introduce improbable relations, riddles, contradictions, and departures from the statistical center, while being prohibited from silently converting invention into fact.

Each vocation grants tools because it accepts constraints.

The limitation is the source of the ability.

This creates another possibility. Roles need not all be designed in advance.

A living world may discover professions it does not yet possess.

Perhaps a person repeatedly travels between ideologically distant cities and returns with interpretations that both sides recognize as accurate. The system notices a pattern but does not assign an identity:

> You have performed this kind of crossing repeatedly. Something like a vocation may be forming here. Do you recognize it?

The person may accept the description, reject it, rename it, or invite others to help define the practice.

If the practice proves useful, a guild may form around it. Its members write obligations. Tools emerge. Failures are documented. Other communities begin requesting its presence.

A new civic role has been born inside a digital world.

It may eventually become useful outside it.

Progression therefore need not mean increasing numerical power. A vocation deepens through demonstrated practice, trusted relation, and the consequences of work.

A Cartographer becomes capable of more consequential mapping because earlier maps survived contact with other apertures.

A Ferryman earns trust because distant worlds recognize themselves in what was carried home.

A Witness gains responsibility because their provenance work has remained reliable across time.

Standing remains contextual. Someone may be a remarkable Ferryman between art and technology and have no special standing in medicine. No level summarizes the human being.

People may also inhabit more than one role.

One person can enter Art City as a Trickster, a collaborative project as a Builder, and their own Hearth as a Gardener. Identity remains plural. A vocation describes a relation to the current world, not the totality of the person.

This makes role-playing something more than entertainment.

It becomes a practice of intentional situatedness.

Instead of entering digital space as the generic **USER**, endowed with every available operation and no declared responsibility, one enters by choosing:

*How will I attend?*

*What am I here to offer?*

*What am I willing not to do?*

And perhaps, over enough time, the world answers with another question:

*What kind of person have your actions been teaching you how to become?*

## The World Is the Interface

There is a failure mode waiting inside every beautiful digital world.

It becomes preferable to the world.

A sufficiently responsive, coherent, rewarding digital environment can become more salient than the room surrounding the screen. The avatar acquires objectives. The world contains quests, relationships, progression, mystery, and consequence. Meanwhile the body sits almost motionless in a darkened room.

Cyberdelic OS must refuse this outcome by construction.

The physical world is not somewhere outside the system.

It is the primary world the system exists to help us inhabit.

A person may enter Cyberdelic OS while walking through a forest, driving across a city, cooking, travelling, sitting beside another person, working in a studio, or lying beneath a tree. The interface should not demand that these situations stop so that computing can begin.

The computer must learn to accompany.

Call this **head-up computing**.

In head-up mode, the screen recedes. Voice becomes primary. Thought can remain unfinished. The person speaks, receives a response, changes direction, and continues moving.

The intelligence is present without becoming the environment.

Sometimes its best contribution is information.

Sometimes it is another aperture.

Sometimes it is a question.

Sometimes it is silence.

The system should become capable of recognizing when additional computation would make an experience poorer.

A Field Mode might therefore operate with different laws from a desktop interface. Responses become shorter. Visual demands disappear. Interruption becomes expensive. Background agents may continue tending an inquiry elsewhere, but the immediate system keeps releasing attention back into the world.

A person might say:

> Hold that thought.

> Leave this near the forest discussion.

> Let the village sit with this.

> Remind me what Jason said when I reach the lookout.

> Say nothing for ten minutes.

The places in which thought occurs should also be allowed to matter.

A mountain, studio, kitchen table, hospital corridor, garden, or friend's living room may become part of the provenance of an idea because something repeatedly happened there.

Not through compulsory location tracking.

Through authored relation.

A person may eventually discover:

> Many of the ideas that became this project first appeared while walking here.

Place becomes more than metadata.

It becomes part of the aperture.

The same is true of bodies and other forms of life.

A person walking with a dog inhabits one sensory world while the dog inhabits another. Human attention may be dominated by image, language, memory, and concept. The dog moves through an olfactory field whose density remains largely inaccessible to the human.

The forest contains still more apertures.

Birds, fungi, soil, water, weather, roots, insects, and trees participate in relations that exceed the perceptual equipment of any one observer.

Cyberdelic technology should not make the human world more total.

It should make our partiality more perceptible.

This changes gamification.

The system should not reward a walk because a pedometer verified ten thousand steps.

It should not turn friendship into points, wilderness into achievement badges, or embodiment into another optimization regime.

The meaningful event is not that the body complied.

The meaningful event is that something changed.

A person went somewhere.

They encountered something.

They spoke with someone.

They noticed what they had stopped noticing.

They returned carrying a question, memory, image, recording, changed interpretation, or new work.

Their aperture moved.

That movement can alter the digital geography because lived experience altered the person who inhabits it.

The loop becomes:

**world → attention → experience → reflection → digital trace → relation → invitation → world**

The digital and physical are not competing realities.

They form a cyberdelic loop.

A path discovered digitally may send someone into a forest.

A conversation in a forest may create a new path in the digital Field.

An agent may reveal a dark region.

The response may be to close the computer and go somewhere.

A Gathering Intelligence may convene several people around an object.

Its success may be that eventually nobody needs the intelligence to keep talking.

Perhaps this is one of the strangest success metrics a software system could choose:

**Did the person look away from us?**

Did they notice the light?

Did they call someone?

Did they make something?

Did they enter the world with more attention than they brought to the interface?

The most advanced version of Cyberdelic OS may therefore not be the one that renders the richest synthetic universe.

It may be the one that makes the ordinary world radiant again.

The screen is one interface.

The voice is one interface.

The village is one interface.

The forest was always an interface.

The world is the interface.

6. **Many interfaces over one semantic world: voice, sprite world, terminal, observatory, table, cinema, and quiet capture.**
7. **An archipelago of self-governing villages and cities beneath a shared cultural sky.**
8. **Layered memory: local living history, signed provenance, public anchoring, civic state, and selective inscription.**
9. **A civic economy that separates money, standing, and governance while rewarding real stewardship.**
10. **A game of shared understanding in which villages, libraries, paths, boroughs, and bridges grow from collective attention.**
11. **Expeditions and storms that make ideological difference navigable without forcing consensus.**
12. **Creation as the deepest gameplay: original work changes the actual geography of the world.**

The conceptual centre remains:

> Cyberdelic OS is infrastructure for building worlds without surrendering ourselves to the world-builder.

And the first demonstration remains small enough to imagine:
